Laminated Glass in Frederick, Maryland
Laminated glass is a safety glass designed such that if the glass shatters, the shards are held together instead of falling apart. This is accomplished by putting together two layers of glass with an interlayer of polyvinyl butyral. If the glass were to break, it’s held together by the vinyl, which essentially acts as a very strong glue. If you’ve ever seen glass that is broken in a “spiderweb” formation, you’re looking at laminated glass. It is great to use to prevent injury in situations where the glass could fall or human impact is possible. Other benefits are that it blocks the majority of UV radiation and it also helps with soundproofing. Laminated glass is used in situations such as:
- Places that need to be strongly weather-resistant
- Exterior storefronts
- Places where security is a risk
